FENSA is a scheme that was brought into force back in May 2002 by the government. The initial theory was to get rid of  lets say “the less professional of our trade” out there. When I first heard of this scheme I remember thinking “about time” but I truly feel that the scheme is flawed because of the following reasons:

The control is not stringent enough because initially they will only inspect 1 in every 10 installations that any given company registers. What if the company never register you and keep “fobbing you off”, what about the other nine installations, these never get checked, you the customer will not know until its too late if there any issues with your installed windows.

The regulations set out by FENSA are somewhat different to our local councils

If you are one of the lucky one’s that do get inspected, what if the inspector finds faults with your windows and the installation company won’t come out to put them right, because if that is the case a certificate won’t be issued until the problems are corrected and then the installation compant must pay for the inspector to re-visit. All well and good if the installation company puts the problems right but what if they don’t , well the onus will be on you!!

As you can probably guess I am not a member of this scheme I do however conform to more stringent guidelines within our local councils. This is called Building Control Permission.
